Design Wall Monday

This week I am working on a fabric high chair/chair restraint for dgd, Paige. I got the pattern from AllFreeSewing.com. It worked up quickly following the very clear instructions they put on YouTube.

Having had 4 boys that are all now 18 thru 31 years old, I don't have any dolls to use as models. We don't even have any stuffed animals left around. So, use your imagination with the squishy pillow I bought for it's pellets.

I will be spending the next 2 days with Paige and will probably be tweaking the pattern a bit. Then I will make a second one to send to them to keep in their car for restaurant use.

Design Wall Monday

I have finished the few projects that I've recently been working on (what a strange thing to be able to say) so I guess on my design wall today will be my UFO #2. It is my Christmas Pineapple Blossom made using Bonnie Hunter's pattern. And it's a monster. If I remember correctly it's over 100" each side. (The picture only shows what one person was able to hold up. haha) The blocks were all made during a swap and I finished the top Christmas 2009. I want to give it to Tim and Nicole at Thanksgiving so they can enjoy using it this Christmas season.

Design Wall Monday

This coming weekend I am hosting a 4 day retreat here at my house for my Friday Quilting friends. DH is going out of town for 4 days and we are going to sew every day he is gone. In getting ready, I am prepping several projects to work on then.

1. A new romper for dgd, Paige, using this fabric and pattern.
Preparation to do: cut out all pieces - Done

2. Batik log cabin - add border, quilt and bind
Preparation - cut out border, make backing and binding  Edit - Done (Wednesday afternoon)

3. Yellow taxi cab - bind - this is actually on the long arm and I expect to have it quilted by the retreat so I will be able to sit and stitch the binding when my back needs a break from sitting at the machine.
Preparation - quilt top, make binding, attach binding. Edit - Done (Monday afternoon)

4. Indigo tote bag
Preparation - cut out all pieces Edit - Done - (Tuesday afternoon)

5. Mini log cabin block
    Preparation - none - Done :)

6. Nine patches for Patrick's college quilt
Preparation - draft pattern, cut strips

Design Wall Monday

The month of May is quickly moving along and today was the first day I've thought about the Monochromatic Challenge. I am combining this challenge with the Christmas gift sewing on the 25th this month. I am going to make another Chubby Charmer to have ready for a gift come Christmas time.

This is one I've been using. It's great for going back and forth to sewing days and I especially love to use it when I travel. It's the perfect size for your "personal" item. It easily holds my book, neck pillow, camera, iPod, etc. The main thing I change from the pattern is I use 4 1/2" charms instead of 5.

Last month I made one out of strips for the brown challenge. That one didn't last very long in the gift closet. I gave it to DS #3's girl friend for her birthday.

So this month I will make a red one. I'm still nursing my elbow so today I only gathered the red charms. I'm not sure about all the fabrics. Now that I'm looking at the pic, I think I'll go with some repeats and take out some of the fabrics that are bothering me. And I need to still find a fabric for the handles and lining. Maybe tomorrow.
