When Judy at Patchwork Times announced the UFO to work on for February would be #10, I have to admit that I was so uninspired that I considered cheating and switching out my list with something else. The Denim Rag quilt. Yuck. I really didn't want to work on this project. But wasn't that why I put it on the list in the first place? My list consists of some UFOs I really want to work on, some that I really need to work on and then a couple that I just want finished and out of here. Yup, the denim rag quilt is the latter of those. I bit the bullet and dug it out. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that all the blocks had already been X stitched.
Oh, OK, maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all. I spent a couple of afternoons heaving this heavy monster thru the machine to get it all pieced. Almost done. Then two evenings clipping. No fun and sooo messy. But done. Well, almost. Do I now take it to a laundramat as so many suggest to save my pipes? Ya know, I just couldn't do it. I couldn't pass on my problem to their pipes. So I washed it in a pillowcase in my own washer. Then I dried it in my dryer, setting a timer for every 4 minutes to empty the lint tray. Wow, impressive amounts of lint and threads. When it was dry I shook it out and it still shed so I washed and dried it a second time. Seems good to be enjoyed now. Phew, DONE!
I still don't love it and can't remember why I started it but it is done. It may become a dog bed for the back of the car. It certainly is sturdy enough for my Rottweiler and Alaskan Huskie.

yea something you can cross off your list and just think the month is not even over yet.Good for you and yes the dog will love it.
This looks like something I'd like to try (once), but perhaps on a smaller scale. OK, maybe three for car quilts for the kids. No dogs to cater to, just kids.
Good for you finishing that one! I have a friend that's done a couple of these, and they are exceptionally sturdy!
Yikes - clipping! I bet your hand was sore after all that! But it's a finish and I'm sure the dogs will love you for it.
Doesn't it feel terrific to have this project crossed off your list!?!? Congrats on finishing a big job...your puppies will thank you :)
Great finish - love crossing off the list. The bucket get "emptyier" my word. Judy C
Great finish! It looks like a very useful quilt. I have a lot of denim, I may have to try it myself. Thanks for the details
That is great that you got it done. Denium does make a heavy quilt.
Good for you for persevering. I know these quilts are tough (I just about wore out my hand clipping until I was told there's a special pair of scissors made just for this job that makes it a LOT easier). As for washing and drying it--that's what laundramats are for! Their machines are super heavy-duty and made for this type of job. Next time (!) take a good book along and wash and dry it only once.
Congratulations! I know how good it feels getting those dreaded ones finished. It looks great, too, and I bet its super warm! :o)
Good for you for sticking with it!
i like it! i've never made a raggie, but maybe i'll get to it someday...
